Back again, sorry about the hiatus.

Well,
Been doing a lot of Classic Battletech lately. Same as for the last two years. But I found a new organization, the Silver Spring Civic Guard, and here's hoping they're easier to get to that NOVAG was. Also, found out PW's been reformed. Got to get in touch with Fred, but we'll see. Won't be the same without Wally Simon though.
In other news, I made a killer trade with D.Chris Seabolt of Dansville Wargamers for a few Russian needs and some nice looking terrain. More details, and hopefully, some pictures later. He's a great guy, and a hail fellow well met, so I want to give him a shout out here, even if he is a Marine...
As for my two cents, well, the rumors are swirling about a potential move of Historicon to Baltimore. TMP is all abuzz about it here. Frankly, I am cautiously optimistic and hope for the best, but I have a bad feeling this will become mired in the usual BoD politics one sees swirl around HMGS. If they move to Baltimore, I have to be honest, it probably will be a good thing. Transportation for a lot of folks will be easier, and though costs will go up, I think the benefits will go up as well. Just so long as they don't move to Timonium. That was an unmitigated disaster.

Getting that time/muse to paint and signs of the times

Ok,
I know the old wargamer's lament...We often buy more than we can paint or ever play with in three lifetimes...let alone one. But, that said, it's a struggle for some to have the time, wherewithal or even the muse to paint. I'm someone who the bug bites him and I become really productive...then, stuff sits for months on end...till boom, I get productive again. It's a weird cycle and I was wondering who else had such an observation or two out there?
Does your skill as a painter have anything to do with it? As in, the better you are, thus the more you'll churn out? Is that really how it works, or are there other factors involved? I am curious.
In other news, Wargames is cutting back their lines for various reasons, picked up some of the Hovels stuff I have had my eye on for a long time. Also, the local FLGS chain Game Parlor is cutting back it's hours as of next Monday. This is worrisome because I wonder, once these economic times conclude, and I believe they will, how many FLGS will see the other side of it? There's a lot of discussion on TMP here and here about it. So, prognostications are abounding...and with the nerves about the economy, will the hobby be one of the casualties?
Finally, a small question, are the people you game with people you wish were more or less mature. And, as we get older, do we demand more maturity for our fun? I am finding in my case, the answer is yes. I mean, being silly and cutting up is a whole lot of fun, but I am finding out you don't have to tell jokes that would have been funny to me ten years ago in the barracks or college dorm. Is this a function of getting older?
And one last note, I promise, to all living in the DC area, with the inauguration coming up, do you have plans to stay at home and work on hobby related items (I sure as heck do). Or, will you brave the crowds, cold and security to get a glimpse of history?

A place to game in DC proper.

Well folks,
Here's where I ramble about something of interest to me. Namely? There's really not a decent place to game in DC that's not a bear to get to by metro. I really don't have driving as an option because I am an epileptic. It's just better I don't. So, I get rides from friends and or take metro. For my Classic Battletech group, it works well as we carpool anyhow. But for historicals...not so much. I've gone out to Game Parlor-Chantilly for NOVAG nights and getting back was an adventure, and expensive by taxi, not to mention it was somewhat easier when I worked in Falls Church to get there, Bethesda, not so much. So, what does a gamer in DC do? I am sure there are options that aren't occuring to me, so what the heck blog land? Are there options? Are there folks like me in DC who'd like to get together and work on this problem?

Welcome

I hope to use this site to chronicle various projects of mine...talk about ideas and things I have run into in my travels around the internet and just plain talk about my travels gaming wise and work on my never ending pile o' lead.

So, who am I?

I'm 34, married six years and living in downtown DC. Our apartment's small, too small to run a decent game in sadly, and one has to travel out to the VA burbs to find a decent gaming space short of a person's house. Shame really.

My periods include 20mm WWII, 20mm Moderns (With a PA Twilight 2000 bent and I may expand into Zombies as well, as Ambush Z looks like a lot of fun), 15mm Sci-Fi (Good skirmish potential and easy on the wallet, but I am torn between Future War Commander and Stargrunt II, have both rules, but basing decisions are a bit thorny), 1/285 Moderns (Fistful of TOWs II and I am building armies to do the usual Soviet threatened excursion to the Rhine, as well as you guessed it, the conventional phase of Twilight 2000), I also have some 6mm Sci-fi (including a few hundred 'Mechs) that I use mostly for Classic Battletech, but I'd love to run some Dirstide as well. I also have a few fleets for Full Thrust.

I also have a few of the HPS computer titles and am always looking for folks to game the modern titles with. Playing against the AI tends to bore.

I hope this turns into a grab bag with something for everyone. I am on the Guild and TMP often enough under this handle at the Guild and M1Fanboy at TMP. And, I stalk around quite a few other places as well.

I hope this blog is entertaining, and I hope that by looking it over myself from time to time, I can learn something. Hope you all like it.
